So I was feeling "geekily nostalgic"... You don't want to be near me when I'm feeling "geekily nostalgic"... ^^ heh heh, nah... All I mean is that I felt like it was time to revisit some old software that I had given up hopes for to see if they had grown to be more stable and usable... Bicycle Repair Man and Komodo IDE are two I've been putting off for re-experimentation after having been somewhat dissapointed with their earlier releases. So Bicycle Repairman now actually works... With a solid XEmacs installation and minimum init.el hacking you can get it to work just fine (v0.71, at least... I never got 0.8b to work). Now it was Komodo's turn. Downloaded the eval version and got my eval license. Now for the fun part.... Well, although the installation had completed without a hitch, the double clicking of the mouse only greeted me with an alert box full of error messages...
There was an error initializing Komodo's primary services. Komodo is shutting down. Exeption:[Exception... "Component returned failure code:0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" [koIInitService.getStartupLocale]" nsresult:"0x80004005(NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame::chrome://komodo/content/editor/kombo.js :: komboOnLoad :: line2198" data:no]At least the errors are pretty descriptive. 1 point for Activestate. ;) So I went and searched the mailing list archive only to find several other users with the same problem with no solution... *SIGH* Next stop, Activestate's Bugzilla archive... A-ha! As soon as I got there, this entry popped into my view. Komodo2.3 installation has been complete. But I can't startup Komodo. I get a pop-up message from os. The message tell me,*kaching* Sounds like me. So there were some replies from Activestate on the issue asking him to submit error trace logs... Ooooh! error logs? There's a log in the Komodo directory? Naturally I went and tracked the bug down, and after 10 minutes of looking around I was able to fix the bug, and my Komodo was happily running on my machine. Don't you love it when you can actually fix your software bugs yourself??? *GRIN* So I submitted my bug fix, and Activestate was cool enough to post my bug fix on their bugzilla site. They even added a lil personal remark. Why it is cool that our code is in Python:Amen, to that brother! ;) |

I will be dropping support for all non standards compliant browsers come mid summer once I get done with the new rendering architecture for this site. I will make sure the site looks consistent under Gecko-based browsers such as Netscape 6.x+ , Mozilla 1.0+, Camino as well as Microsoft's IE 6.x+ and finally Apple's nimble Safari. Sorry for being such an ass. :P |

The details on my main summer project for this side of myself is shaping up, albeit on a rather slow pace. Can't wait till summer rolls up, exciting stuff should be happening!!! Awww yeah! Oh... then I remind myself about my master's thesis that is yet to be written.... *SIGH* Anybody an expert in evolutionary economics and would care to discuss the relationship between biology, artificial intelligence with the way economic theroies shape and evolve with moi? |

This had better not have been a April Fool's Joke... Wow... Square and Enix... Dragon Quest revival??? Oh, and this has to be a security violation, no? Hmmm.. should untrusted client-side scripts be able to do such a thing? |

A funny lil parody of Apple's "switch" ad campaign. Speaking of "switch"... Could somebody buy me a 12" Apple Power Book, please? ;) |
