The following is an e-mail I had sent out on 5/12/2003 to my beloved dancers of iFS whom I have spent a big chunk of my DJ career with. Creating remixes specifically for choreography is a challenging task to say the least. It is quite different from any other type of remixing and I certainly have learned quite a bit from the experience. However, I'm leaving the experience behind to face a new challenge, and I thought putting this e-mail up here will remind myself to really push myself to the limit considering what I am missing out on. I love you guys, and you had better not give up on your love towards the art of dancing!
As you all know, I've been around for quite some time... (nearly 8 years now) and I'm very happy that half of that time had been spent with my dear dancers aka "hoobae deul" aka "xue di men" aka "kou hai tachi". I've seen practically all of you since your frosh years and needless to say, I'm very proud to see some of you finally graduate this year as well (yes, Sam... the super duper senior, you!). That's probably why all of you seem like my babies to me. :) Mind you, that doesn't mean I regard you guys as mere youngsters, of course. :) I can never say enough that if you hang around younger people you actually grow more than if you were to hang around older people, and for that I'm forever grateful.
As some of you may already know I've decided to step down from the position of the resident DJ of iFS. I think the time is right and I'm confident that in doing so iFS will be taking a step forward in the search of better talent that could help the orgnization advance to the next level musically. Needless to say it wasn't an easy decision to make, but I believe it's for the best. I still remember Sam coming up to me when I was the DJ/sound director for Lunar Gala 1999 and asking me if I could play his CD. To think that such a seemingly random encounter would lead to something as rewarding as our past 4 years is simply amazing, and for that I owe Sam a great deal. Thanks, again.
To you all, I leave behind my 4 remixes, countless hours of yelling "Energy!", "Come on!", "Exaggerate!", "Project!", and all the pep talks I've given in the hopes that it made a difference to some of you. Please keep going strong, and never let go of what brings happiness into your lives. If there is one reason why I think life is so beautiful, it's the fact that once I learn what brings happiness into my life, I refuse to let it go. I hope you guys do the same. :D I am very proud to have been affiliated with such a huge pool of talented individuals and if I haven't run out of luck I'll cross paths with you guys later in life. *fingers crossed*
For me, new challenge awaits in the name of music production, and I just hope to be able to outdo myself again this time. Please, wish me luck. :)
I'll still be around the burgh working and finishing up my master's degree. Heck, I may visit you guys from time to time to see if I can pick up a few more dance moves during regular iFS practice sessions. :) And of course I'll be in the audience cheering you guys on whenever you guys perform and I'll also make sure to attend graduation next year to see more of you guys graduate.
For those of you who are graduating this year, hopefully we'll have time to get together to talk about boring subjects such as what is life like after graduation. ;) If you guys are planning a lil get-together, count me in!
Oh, before I forget... You can head over to http://djslim.com/djslim3/deejay/ , click on "my creations" on the right hand side and download mp3s and real videos of our performance. (This year's real video will be up tomorrow or so)
Farewell and may you all have a great summer!
