I've been occupied with production work for the past several months, so I've been on a temporary leave from the party scene, but when I heard that this would be the last party to be held at Club Joy (they sold the upper floor) all those memories of nights I've spun at Club Joy came flashing back. ^^;; heh heh.

Anyway, so I'll be spinning there on Saturday, so come on down and party with me and the students from 20+ other colleges who'll be in town for the 2003 KUPC Fall B-Ball tournament. Party starts around 10PM as usual.

So today we had our 5th recording session. We were supposed to be done by our last recording session but Why ask Y? was out of town and he wasn't really in a good condition today so it looks like we're going to go back there next weekend to finish stuff up. Thank god we're not paying for studio time, cuz if we were I'd be broke by now... pu heh heh. ^^;;

Right now I'm going through the editing process with the new recordings we've done in the studio to get the acapella track redone. The track as a whole is coming along quite nicely. Everytime I revisit to introduce new details, things get more and more interesting. It's certainly enough to keep me going. ^^. I must admit, though, that the editing process overall is rather grueling... Phew! I'll manage.

Oh, have you guys heard of Robert Randolph & the family band? I saw them at the Sprite Remix Concert when the tour was in town, and I thougt they were the best act (but they were opening... o_0;)! If you guys want to hear some good guitar playing you should definitely give those guys a listen!

Our 2nd recording session went ok, but not great. We were only able to use the recording room for 2 hours, which was nowhere near enough. We're going back on Sunday for our 3rd session, so hopefully we'll get everything we need then. As for the track, I'm getting the hang of being able to say where the mixing ends and where the mastering will pick up. I think I had developed a bad habit of trying to mix and master at the same time... That only caused confusion and further frustration on my part, so I'm trying to stop myself from crossing that boundary. I'm going to have to ask a pro to master our track when they're done anyway. (I highly doubt that I can master the art of mastering that normally takes years of ear training in less than a year)

Our first track is coming along fairly well. This track we're working on doesn't reek of "me", though.... I don't think anybody would really classify it as being my tune, but the intention of the track was to bring out the MCs rather than the beat itself, and I think it does the job rather well, so I'm going with it. :)

This made my day. Thanks Jieun... It puts a big smile on my face everytime I look at it :D These little things can really make a difference when you're ready to throw your mixer at the wall after trying for 5 hours to get that perfectly well-equalized reverb effect on the vocal track... Phew~ God help this rookie out...

Finished our very first recording session at the CFA 321 production booth on Sunday. It went from 1:30PM till 7:00PM with a lunch/dinner break in between. I was surprised at how patient everybody was. So proud of everyone, really. ;) We'll probably have to go back to record parts of the chorus again, but I have enough samples to work with for the vocal mixing session. I must say that it really feels good to record in a room with foam-pads as opposed to my ghetto living room studio. ;) Trying to be a producer/composer/mixing engineer/turntable player may be a lot of work, but it's really satisfying. If I believe I have the capability I don't think I'll do it any other way... I suppose that's really not up to me to judge, though.. heh heh. :) I just feel really good about this... If everything moves smoothly like this for about three more weeks, I think we'll have one complete track to show off!! Ah... words cannot express fully how excited I am... ^^
